Rugs are a key element in any home’s décor. They’re elegant, warm, stylish and more. There are different types of rugs available on the market, and Oriental rugs are among the most popular. If you buy one for your home, you must take special care in its cleaning. Left unclean, it will quickly lose its sheen and gloss. If you clean it the wrong way, you can damage it permanently.
Here are some tips for the basic cleaning of Oriental rugs:
- Over time, dirt and dust particles accumulate on it. Simple vacuuming done once a week will take care of the problem. Many people overlook the underside of the rug. At least once a month, flip it over and vacuum the underside, too.
- For stains, make a mixture of vinegar, soap and water. Pour a cup of vinegar and a quarter cup of soap in a bucket and mix it with water. Soak a sponge in the mixture but wring it out completely before using it to rub out a stain. When done, empty the bucket and fill it again with cool water. Soak a clean cloth in the new mixture, wring it out and rub gently on the spot you cleaned. Make sure the rug wash is removed completely before anyone walks on the rug.
